A gangster movie that is certainly old fashioned but enjoyable enough to watch just to see where it goes. The story is fun enough to watch but even better is the brilliant performance by Van Heflin that deservedly won him an Oscar. Not a great movie by any chance but thanks to Heflin the movie is not a completely standard ganster film. Melodramatic for sure but enjoyable.
