Kevin Bacon is pretty good in this while director David Koepp does try to lend some atmosphere to this creepy thriller. Some of the twists are easy to pick up on though.

Not what I expected, in both a good and bad way. The story was interesting, characters were decent, and acting was good. It just doesn't deliver on the promised horror aspect. I didn't feel any atmosphere present and there are no good scares. Worth a look for the mystery.

In a year that saw two excellent cinematic ghost stories, "The Blair Witch Project" and "The Sixth Sense", the release of "Stir of Echoes" in that early autumn could not have been more poorly timed. It's a shame, since "Stir of Echoes" is a very effective, well-crafted and well-acted movie. While most people compare this movie to "The Sixth Sense", this movie is a lot different and a lot better in most ways, particularly that this film doesn't have a twist ending like "The Sixth Sense" did which I'm glad it didn't. The story is rather original and is nicely constructed, and some really believable characters as well.
