Chris Kavan - wrote on 10/20/21 at 12:04 PM CT

It's a meager update for the ratings bulleting this week, but at least it's a big film. Meanwhile, the box office continues to look strong thanks to Halloween Kills but it turns out deep, emotional historical epics aren't as good of draws these days.

Halloween Kills certainly did so at the box office, slashing its way to a $49.4 million opening. That was enough for the overall box office to …

The ratings bulletin is short but still has a couple of films to cover, one a heartfelt tribute to youth the other a film where a bunch of grown men embarrass and injure themselves for your entertainment. On the box office front Daniel Craig's last outing as 007 opened with a bang - but a somewhat lighter bang than was expected and it might mean trouble ahead for the rest of month's …

Red Notice, The Tender Bar and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

Chris Kavan - wrote on 10/06/21 at 05:30 PM CT

A huge amount of ratings this week but just a tiny bit worth mentioning - and both are streaming this time. But the box office continues to provide plenty worth talking about as Venom: Let There Be Carnage made a huge splash on the domestic front while 007 in No Time to Die did the same thing overseas - both pointing to a resurgent box office this fall.

On the box office front a new 2021 …

Encanto, Spencer, Last Night in Soho and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

Chris Kavan - wrote on 09/29/21 at 01:42 PM CT

A trio of big movies - just bouncing through all kinds of genres - gives me a little bit to talk about in this week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin. On the box office side of things, Shang-Chi officially became the highest-grossing film of the pandemic era, breezing past Black Widow on its way to a $200 million plus final tally. The week's only newcomer, Dear Evan Hansen, couldn't overcome pre-release …

Eternals, House of Gucci and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

As the MCU continues to dominate the box office, we also get an MCU update in the MPAA Ratings Bulletin. It's a double-dose of heroes, so I hope you're up for it. While Shang-Chi continues to boost the box office, the same can't be said for Clint Eastwood or the action-oriented Copshop - both of which failed to generate much heat in their respective debuts. It's a pretty clear sign that certain …
