'Cooties' is a slightly inventive comedy set in the realm of infection zombie horror. The premise of a virus only affecting pre-pubescent age individuals makes for some creative twists on seen-before scenarios. Nothing here is taken serious. Constant joke delivery ensures that we are in for a silly farce from beginning to end. Surprisingly, the R rating is more than justified between the swearing, sexual references, and gory moments. This is one of those rare movies that makes kids unlikable and has the balls to kill them in bloody fashion. It's enough to make this stand out from the now crowded zombie comedy genre. Some brief character moments involving a sort of 'love triangle' stop the craziness, at times. They weren't necessary, but still could've been incorporated better. …

Infectious Fun for the Right Crowd

Your level of enjoyment of Cooties is going to be directly related to how much you like the zombie genre. Granted, to a stickler like me it should be noted Cooties is more of a 28 Days Later type of infection rather than a true "zombie" film. It also depends on your tolerance to the characters - most of who you can't exactly relate to (or even like).

Elijah Wood plays Clint - a would-be author (trying to write a book about a possessed boat) who returns to his small town of Chicken Fort to live with his mother and scrape by on his substitute teaching position.
