Kong: Skull Island - Review

Matthew Brady - wrote on 12/11/2017

"Kong: Skull Island" has it's moments of fun and being epic, but can somehow feel so small. Peter Jackson's "King Kong" was far superior than this and felt more grand in it's scale. The whole experience was kinda hollow.

Besides the characters being really one note; John C. Reilly was the best part of this movie. A real show stealer. I rather see a movie with Reilly's character being stuck on the island with Kong. I mean, nothing against the other actors, as they did the best for what's been written for them. I just couldn't care less when characters bite the dust.

The influences of "Apocalypse Now" and Spielberg movies, mostly "Jurassic Park", is an interesting mix. The director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts has a vision and when you hear him talk in interviews, he knows what he's talking …

"I call them skull crawlers. Why? Cause it sounds unique."

Is there really nobody else wondering why the actresses in a King Kong movie are so attracted to this giant ape? Honestly, I'm always asking myself the same question. Now, these are always women who'll drive that primitive monkey bananas (how appropriate). Also in this new Kong movie, the lady who's being helped by the dreaded monkey, looks breathtaking and appetizing.

"Kong: Skull Island" contains a number of successful …

.....Monsters Exist....

Kong Skull: Island kicks off the 2017 blockbuster summer with a monster sized adventure with enough action and spectacle to satisfy popcorn audiences everywhere. The Lost World genre in its classic literal form is almost gone from cinema let alone popular culture. It has to be revamped in a high tech setting like Jurassic Park as an example. I applaud director Jordan Vogt-Roberts for playing the material straight and giving viewers what they want in spades all within a reasonable two hour running time.

But here we have an uncharted island untouched by the outside world for eons until an expedition backed by the US military stumbles upon its terrible secret: Kong, a 100 foot prehistoric ape who wrecks havoc on the explorers' team and strands them on the treacherous Skull Island. Worse …
