Not always as thrilling as it should be, but it has broad performances, an intriguing storyline, and an eyeopening message about the media.

An amazing story with an amazing protagonist-antagonist character well-acted by the amazing Jake Gyllenhaal. I just had some issues with direction. But that's fine, still a good watch, didn't bore me at least.

Liked this more than I expected to -- the critique of TV news felt weirdly dated, but Gyllenhaal was convincingly creepy and yet fun to watch. LA, dark and slick and neon-lit, was visually appealing too.

A superb film and one of the greatest roles Jake Gyllenhaal has put on screen. Here he plays an articulate, self-taught young man trying to find his place in the world. He is also a despicable, one might say soulless individual who is not above breaking the law or getting people killed in order to fulfill what he sees as his destiny. It makes your skin crawl, while also providing an all-too-real depiction of modern media and how it spins gratuitous violence and crime as the real news - mostly to gain ratings as audiences revel in the horror. Excellent (if terrible) characters coupled with a great story make this a standout of 2014.

Jake Gyllenhaal totally made this movie- his somewhat deranged yet still painfully professional mannerisms brought everything to the next level and I loved it. The story itself was just so messed up that you have to keep watching it to see the situation get steadily worse. "A friend is a gift that you give to yourself."

Sick, disturbing, a kind of sinister evil that isn't portrayed in movies often nor successfully, yet Jake Gyllenhaal gave a great performance as a creepy, deranged, man aspiring to make a name for himself. Nightcrawler wasn't just a cringing thriller, it's the type of movie that you can only hope will never truly exist.
