Micro size thriller, with little in terms of story, surprises through sustained tension. The setup is instantly relatable: lost in a rural area of winding dirt roads. It's involuntarily easy to put yourself in this exact situation. The directing/camera work add to the closeness of the viewer actually being apart of the experience, as do the realistic portrayals of the two main characters. Constant unexpected events kept me on edge throughout. None of it is typical in any way. I wouldn't say 'In Fear' is straight-up scary, but it is very effective at utilizing subtle techniques in evoking primal reactions. It shows in every aspect of the film. Well done thriller.

It's fine. The finale had a lot of potential, but it fell apart due to the idiocy that took over the film's second half. It grew generic, the characters suddenly became stupid, and the final scene is slightly unsatisfying, and once you understand what the filmmakers were going for, you really just don't care anymore. That being said, the film's first half is awesome! It effectively takes its time developing the characters, building the tension, and absorbing us into the uneasy situation. It's provocative and nerve-wracking, but all of that buildup leads to an unsatisfactory outcome. It's as if the writer wrote himself into a corner and couldn't find a clever way out. 2.5/4
