I actually liked this teenage SF for chicks ...

Maybe it's just me or this damn hot weather that made me feel languid this week, but I thought this movie really wasn't that bad. The idea of an alien civilization (Yep that's the SF part) invading earth and taking over human bodies to improve earth's environmental and social conditions by creating a healthier and more peaceful world, actually sounds both interesting and intriguing. There's also the struggle between Melanie and Wanda: it's a mental jousting in a way.
The acting was not of the highest level, but the scenery in the movie was exquisite. There are several movies that couldn't keep my attention. For once aliens weren't portrayed as being violent murderous creatures. This was confirmed when certain aliens remind Seeker Lacy she's a bit too obsessed in her …

The Host Just Scratches the Surface

Even though I knew this movie was based off the book by Stephanie Meyer, I was hoping it would avoid the pitfalls that made me avoid the Twilight franchise. For one thing, Saoirse Ronan is a terrific actress and I was hoping that she would be able to elevate the story beyond the mere tween romance angle. But despite the efforts all around, I just couldn't shake the feeling that, in the end, this was essentially Twilight with parasitic aliens instead of vampires and werewolves.

The concept behind the film is interesting - a group of planet-hopping parasitic beings take over the host body. In the case of humans, it makes their eyes shiny and their demeanor much better (the aliens never lie and are much more grounded). The bad thing is the human consciousness is still trapped inside and, …

Another great from author Meyer

I know a lot of my male followers will condemn me for saluting author Stephanie Meyer however I cannot deny enjoying both her books and the big screen movie adaptations of them as well. Although not having read The Host this movie is no exception as it has originality qualities something that is lacking in film in this day and age.

The storyline is as follows; An alien species in the form of parasites have invaded earth and most of the human species eliminating any evil feelings of war, hatred you name it....earth has become for the first time peaceful. There are a few humans left that are hunted down by the 'Souls' and converted. A few of these humans led by Uncle Jeb Stryder (William Hurt) now have a rebellion against the alien souls and are fighting for what is rightfully theirs …

The Host

The Host (2013) Aliens have invaded the Earth and have taken over the minds and bodies of most of the population. Melanie (Saoirse Ronan) sacrifices herself to let her boyfriend and brother escape and allows an alien named, the Wanderer, to take over her body/mind. But, to the alien’s chagrin, Melanie hasn’t given up. It turns out Melanie is sharing her body, mind and memories with the alien, an experience that will change both of their lives. From the same novelist, Stephenie Meyer, who gave us the Twilight series, this film has much better acting and better dialogue than that series with the sparkly vampires. Saoirse Ronan doesn’t disappoint in the multi-role of Melanie and The Wanderer, portraying basically two roles in one body. The film is very typical of the Young …
