I'm still not so sure how I feel about the animation for this one. At times it really worked and at other times it just seemed too cartoon-y for a story like this and that sort of threw me off. But I don't know, I did like this movie, I just think that it could have been amazing if a few aspects of it were different.

A short, sweet, and enchanting tale of a boy and a secret book. Unique animation. Good score.

I wasn't sure about this film when it popped up in the 2010 race for Best Animated Film, but after getting the chance to watch it, I can say it definitely deserved its place. It's very well done and the story flows just as good as the animation. The music and vocal talent is likewise very well done - it get a lot across in a short amount of time.

The traditional animation in this film is gorgeous and almost impressionistic in its construction. The plot is carried out with conviction, which helps to give the film strong emotional life, as well. The real star here, though, is the animation, for sure.
