Broadly-conceived collection of narratives that manages to be both arresting and frustrating; much too long and metaphorical for a casual audience, but it will reward the patient ant thoughtful viewer; Adriana Barrazza is great and Rinko Kikuchi is heartbreaking in the film's most complex role. Final Grade: B-

Did this movie have subtitles when it was shown in theatres? I watched it on dvd and it didn't have subtitles. I assumed it was supposed to be that way and finished the film. I liked it without but was confused on the Japanese story.

A very interesting and political film. I was amazed by the way it was shot and written. Definatley worth watching even if you dont like these sort of films. its not full of action and you have to pay attention to it to understand but if your really into it its worth watching. I walked out of the cinema feeling depressed but in a good way. The quality of the script is great and the way the lives of all the people change and twist because of a silly accident at the begining.

Awesome performances by Brad Pitt and cast. A great interlocking story that is filled with morality, and beautiful music. One of the best movies this year!
