Although you'll be forced to fight back tears while watching, "Precious" is ultimately as hopeful as it is challenging.

Precious has had all the hard knocks in life... and then some. This is one emotionally wrenching film that does not shy from showing the awful circumstances of it's title character. Gabourey is perfectly cast in the role, giving complete believability to a girl stuck in this terrible home life. Her ability to not let her mother break her is the drive for which we want to see her overcome this hardship. Mo'Nique is excellent as the mother. She brings depth to a character that could've easily been made out to be a cold villainous type.

"My precious". Precious is an illiterate fifteen year old girl who is pregnant with her father's second child. Her abusive mother leads her to believe that she is worthless, her situation leads her to believe that she is without value, and her image leads her to believe that she will never be precious. When an enigmatic alternative professor teaches her to write and to love, Precious realizes that the most powerful message is the one she gives herself. this movie is powerful and hard to watch in parts. Mo'Nique was outstanding in this film and Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe did great too.

Without pushing its own sociological agenda, Precious succeeds at painting a raw and thought-provoking portrait of the struggles of poverty and pursuing dreams. Its heart is a breakthrough performance by Gabourey Sidibe and its villain (albeit a somewhat sympathetic one) is the fearless and piercing turn by Mo'nique (though there's nothing funny at all about her portrayal.)

monique gives the performance of her career in this film.she was absoultely mesmerizing and as the story goes on you almost understand and feel sympathy for her character and the last scene put the signature on it.she demanded that academy award. paula patton and gabourey sidibe are fantastic also.

Not a great film for those looking for a pick-me-up but breakthrough performances from Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique elevate this from mere drama to heartbreaking truth. Even Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz shed their music roots and get in on the action. A bit of a downer, but has surprising effect.

Precious is another movie that wins Oscars because it shows African Americans as worthless (Incest Rapist Father Jealous Useless Abusive Mother) Holly won for showing her breast and Denzel for being a dirty hopeless cop. I am sure I could never watch this movie again it was so negative. I have to admit that it did hold my attention and I was able to watch it without dosing. I was surprised to see Mariah Carey she tried. At least I had to read the credits to know it was her so that was good acting. Gabby for her first time did an amazing job. Please use that money and save your life, lose weight my dear. So you can enjoy your new wealth.

This movie is good only because it's one those movies that is actually very real. Monique did a wonderful job stepping outside of her regular ridiculousness and actually did some "from the core" acting. Mariah Carey did a nice job too. I think someone finally got it into her head that less is more. This Gabriel chick was a little annoying, but her character was just so messed up and it was so sad to watch her. But all in all this was a solid movie.

this one had a low budget feel to it, but I thought it was a good movie. This girl's life was F'd up, bad enough to be abused by your father, but your mother as well. Not a movie I could sit through again, but I do recommend it to watch at least once. Great acting by Mo'Nique, thought the Oscar was well deserved. The ending may not be too much of a happy one, but I think it was about as good as it was gonna get for this girl
