It should be expected that "Porco Rosso,"a movie about aviation, is one Miyazaki's most uplifting features. A roaring adventure anime feature with subtle messages, sardonic wit, and lively characters who feel salvaged from classic Hollywood movies.

Miyazaki's most straight-forward film is missing some of the magic and mysticism of past works, but it is nevertheless, full of the director's trademark subtle humor and astounding visuals. The plot is thoroughly unique and the sarcastic character of Porco Rosso is inimitable. A worthy member of the Studio Ghibli canon.
