Director of the original returns to give us a sequel that is a very different type of horror film than the first Chainsaw. This has split fans of the franchise over the years, but I personally enjoy it for what it is. I didn't warm up to it until the second or third viewing.

The first half on this film is suprising. It's very entertaining in that fun 80's synth horror kind of way. Its shot nicely and the actors are convincing and the action is enjoyable. But then the second half comes along and completely ruins any potential it had of being a decent sequel. Its lazy, badly edited and not even remotely interesting. Dennis Hopper and Leatherface duelling with Chainsaws like Luke and Darth begin what has to be the most rubbish final half hour. Overall, it's pretty lame.

While the original is considered a horror classic, this sequel is less than stellar. It ups the gore and throws in humor, but that doesn't make this better. It isn't a total failure (like say, Next Generation) but it isn't too good either.
