Two aging former lawmen are hired to transport gold from the minefields to a city bank. One of them has a plan to steal the gold and when he can't convince his partner that they take the gold as payment for a lifetime of thankless duty, he takes it himself. His redemption and the wonderful details that show the men trying to confront their growing irrelevance in a changing world make for a moving film. This is a good primer for the director's masterpiece with the same theme, The Wild Bunch.
