Hoop Dreams review

The story of William Gates and Arthur Agee in terms of their maturity and growth as basketball players. It also shows the hardships of their parents and the potential of William's brother Curtis. The detailed documentary exhibits various themes of family, values, race, economic class and dreams. Images of Agee’s family in the trenches were just disheartening. Both individuals had game and have different attitude and outlook in life. The persistence and motivation of Arthur’s mother was impeccable. His father’s reform was enlightening as well. This documentary was 3 hours, not a single moment was dull. So many teachings to be picked up and heartaches because of some “school system’s.” Hoop Dreams is real drama not only for basketball fanatics such as myself, but also for movie buffs who enjoy film making and realistic dialogues that can be applied in our everyday lives. This flick is a slam dunk for me.
