Well, I had pretty high expectations for this movie. I heard a lot of hype surrounding Ben Stiller's surpisingly serious performance and around the film itself. I rented it and...well....the movie was really just ok. Stiller's absolutely fantastic in the title role. However, the character is completely unlikable and the film itself is awkward and kinda depressing. Heck, I had a big problem with the characters in the movie. I watched it and thought to myself "Why do they hang out let alone even put up with this guy?" They just came off as very dumb people.
I may sound a bit harsh but the movie isn't bad. Hopefully Stiller will get an oscar nomination for best actor which he certainly deserves and the supporting cast is pretty good. The dialogue feels real as do the characters(for as unlikable as some them are). All in all, the movie's really just ok. Nothing truely special. Still worth checking out.
