The Golden Compass

Why is everyone hating on this movie? It's great!

I don't understand all the negative reviews. I waited over a year to see this since the reviews were bad so it just kept falling off of my list of movies to watch. When I finally did watch it I was startled at how good the story was.

The movie reminded me of Harry Potter, with all the magic and mystery, but I thought it was presented better. There was more action, better special effects and far less whining. Overall, it was a complete joy to watch and my only problem with this movie was the ending because I wanted more and didn't want to wait for the next one.

The acting was also good. Nicole Kidman's cold blooded character was really effective and Dakota Blue Richards showed she has a lot of potential.

The story was darker and had a more grown up message, which was probably why it was PG-13 in the first place. I don't picture small children understanding this movie. Not that there was a huge amount to take in on the first movie, but I assume as the journey goes on more will be explained.

Finally, everyone told me it is anti-Christianity. I don't know the whole story, but from what I have seen I think people are overreacting. Take it how you want, but I just don't see it. Besides it is a fantasy movie in an alternate world, if you can't use your imagination for 2 hours then this movie isn't for you anyhow.

So I watched the movie and like you I could find nothing wrong with it. I then bought the book series and read it all, because I did not feel that it was wrong. In the third book the dark angels or whatever kills God and throughout the second and third books God isn't exactly placed in a good …
