A western that feels like two different stories. One is a sleazy thriller involving one of the most annoying villains I’ve seen in a while. The other is a softer tale of a gunman befriending a little girl (who may be his daughter). Gregory Peck is good as usual. Susan Tyrell has a nice part as a conflicted bar girl. It’s a shame that James Gregory is not onscreen much. We are left with this bumbling buffoon played by Robert Lyons as the heavy.
