Thir13 Ghosts: Looks cool but is 'meh' after a bit

This slick supernatural horror flick boasts an outstanding production design with one of the more uniquely designed haunted houses in cinema. And there are actually quite a few creative kills that are undeniably gruesome but so over-the-top you can't help but snicker.
It's too bad the script is not that good. The movie uses slow-motion way too much. Tony Shalhoub is weird casting for a movie like this. But Matthew Lillard is kind of entertaining as the sarcastic comic-relief.
The makeup effects and designs for some of the ghosts is cool, like the brutish thug Juggernaut or the asylum inmate The Jackal. One might almost think they intended one of these ghosts to get their own spin-off.
Apparently this got really bad reviews when first released. It's not that bad but there is a sense of wasted potential. But for ninety minutes and if you have friends over, it's a quick tidy sit.
