Without a Clue

This revisionist take on the Sherlock Holmes has a funny premise but isn’t very good as a comedy. Suppose if Doctor Watson was the real brains behind the duo, and Holmes was just a ham actor playing a phony genius?
It’s a good idea, but the plot is not as wacky or creative as it should be. Both Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley are okay for their roles. Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) is great casting as Professor Moriarty but he’s underused.
The central plot relies on the viewer’s concern about counterfeit money which is not an exciting mystery. It’s too bad that is all they went with. The premise is still good, but needs better execution and a far more interesting story.
