Vox Lux

Armed with a more focused narrative than his debut film CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER, Brady Corbet's musical drama VOX LUX is more thoughtful then expected. But as good as the performances are, the movie still feels a little too detached and clinical in its execution. However, Natalie Portman is very very good as the talented but tired and troubled pop singer Celeste whose iconography is appropriated for a terrorist attack. On top of that, she's got a tumultuous relationship with her teenage daugher (Cassidy) because of course she does. Raffey Cassidy herself is decent playing two different characters in different timelines. Ewan McGregor is solid as Portman's manager.
