The Net

Decent Cyber Thriller!

This film was made in 1995, when the Internet was becoming a curiosity with people around the world. Sandra Bullock stars as Angela Bennett, a computer analyzer who lives and breathes computers. She works out of her L.A. area home and does everything by the net- order pizza, book airline tickets and even her neighbors hardly ever see her. She goes on a much-needed vacation, where she meets an apparently nice British fellow, but quickly finds that not all is as it appears to be when her identity is stolen and her mother who is suffering from Alzheimer's doesn't even remember Angela’s name or who she is.

Jeremy Northam is perfect as the bad guy who can't seem to decide whether he wants to prolong the sexual tension of the chase or just kill her and get it over with. The scene where she confronts Devlin on the boat is my favorite: I just love how she says "So.... who are you...Jack?" And Dennis Miller is good as her psychiatrist friend Dr. Alan Champion.

I liked the use of names: "Devlin" for the devilishly evil Jack and "Angela" (often shortened to "Angel") to denote Angela's innocence.

You may never feel safe to enter another chat-room again, in fact I'm getting quite nervous just writing this review...er...bye!
