This heartwarming tale is based on a famous book written by Jack London. It tells of a young lad Jack Conroy, played by Ethan Hawke and his adventures during the gold rush days of Alaska in the late 1890’s. He is searching for a gold mine left by his father. He rescues the wolf-dog "White Fang" from his cruel owner James Remar who uses him for illegal dogs fighting which usually end with the death of one of the animals. The wolf-dog becomes a loyal companion of the young boy.

Supporting actor Klaus Maria Brandauer shines throughout Alex Larson, a friend of Jack's late father who died in the wild Alaskan wilderness and left the claim to the shack and mine to him. He and Alex become friends and partners in the gold sector. Alex teaches Jack how to search for gold and survive in Alaska, while Jack teaches Alex how to read and to write.

But the real star in this movie is the wolf. I love dog movies and this one is especially touching and had me tearing up at certain parts. Well worth the watch if you don’t mind a good old fashioned tale.
