Seeking Justice

The Hungry Rabbit Jumps!

Seeking Justice is aptly named and tells the story of a mild mannered high school teacher Will Gerald (played by Nicholas Cage) who accepts an offer from a mysterious stranger Simon (portrayed by a shaven headed Guy Pearce) to avenge the brutal rape of his wife Laura (January Jones) while she lies recuperating in hospital. Simon belongs to an organization who is sick of the downfall of the hurricane devastated New Orleans and take a more direct way at punishing those who have "turned this city into hell".

There is just one catch: Though the help Simon offers is free of charge, the stranger makes it clear that he may call on Will to repay the “favor” sometime in the future. Having allowed Simon to “take care” of his wife’s rapist, Will is now beholden to carry out a series of ever escalating tasks to repay the society. He soon finds that his tasks aren’t that innocuous and balks when he’s asked to murder a suspected criminal as payback for the service provided for him.

A creative plot that definitely gives you the thrills and manages to keep u on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next and Guy Pearce is very menacing as the bad guy.

My thoughts:
Vigilantism always makes for an interesting and provocative subject matter. Is it the solution when crime is out of control? It reminded me of Charles Bronson “Death Wish” and while I am a your regular law abiding citizen I must admit I was cheering when he took on those bad guys so yea I find it easy to side with vigilantes when they go up against murderers, rapists and pedophiles. It is a terrible world to live in when it is considered inhuman to sentence serial rapists with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Does this make me better than them? Probably not but at least I sleep better at nights knowing that the world is better off with one less bad guy.
