I finished the book yesterday and finished the movie today. I didn't like the book much, but I liked the movie even less. I'm not one for getting all upset about adaptations not following the original source closely, but this movie REALLY took liberty with its adaptation. The kids are now American, "modern," and most of the events that occur are nothing like the book. I hope there aren't English teachers showing this movie alongside a unit plan of reading the book, because that would confuse the hell out of some kids. Additionally, the movie is painfully boring and the acting/directing is atrocious.
