Plot: William Devane plays a recently released P.O.W. who comes home to a small Texas town. His wife tells him she's leaving him for his best friend, his son is afraid of him, and he couldn't feel more alone. Until, that is, a gang of thugs kill his wife and son and leave him to die. Now, with the help of his former co-P.O.W. (Tommy Lee Jones) he blazes a path of revenge that goes all the way though to Mexico.

Revenge-fueled thriller which feels like a Punisher movie by way of 'Taxi Driver'. Sure enough, it's written by Paul Schrader. William Devane is believable as a Vietnam vet stricken with PTSD but he winds up being too remote. Tommy Lee Jones fares better as his sidekick and I wish he was the lead instead.

The writing tears the revenge picture down to the bare bones, supplying "Rolling Thunder" with maximum thrills even as it sacrifices thematic depth in the process.

Good movie that couldve been a western as well.Great ending
