My Take On the Worst of the Worst Movies Ever, Part 2

By Chris Kavan - 03/23/13 at 12:57 PM CT

Last week was a very short start at breaking down the Razzie "winners" and seeing how my opinion stacked up with the so-called experts. This week I really start getting into the meat of the selections - although the really terrible movies are still upcoming. Still - at least at this point the movies are watchable - I won't be able to say the same thing in the next couple weeks (believe me, it gets much, much worse). Here then are the next entries:

15) COCKTAIL

I doubt Tom Cruise is going to put this on his highlight reel because Cocktail is a terrible, cheesy film. But let's face it - the 80s are chock full of terrible, cheesy films and Cocktail is by no means one of the worst of them. Plus we get some early roles from Elisabeth Shue, Kelly Lynch and Gina Gershon - worth the price of watching right there. It's bad - but it's watchable and I bet a lot of people list this as a guilty pleasure.

14) TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN

Look, no one is going to mistake Michael Bay's Transformers movies for high art. They are loud, flashy, special-effects driven, badly-acted action-movie messes. They have no heart - but they are the epitome of summer blockbusters - all style, no substance. Revenge of the Fallen is certainly the worst of this series - buy I would still find no problem sitting down watching it - even if it would be more fun to make fun of it the entire time.

13) INDECENT PROPOSAL

This is a mediocre romance/drama with mediocre turns from Robert Redford, Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson - who all share lukewarm chemistry at best. Demi Moore was worse in the Scarlett Letter. And there have been much worse on-screen couples pairings over the years (hello, The Happening) so while I wouldn't necessarily rush out to watch this one - I also wouldn't want to purge it from existence either.

12) SHOWGIRLS

Paul Verhoeven's trashy epic clearly falls in the "so bad it's good" category of films. No one's career was helped by this film - but it has achieved a cult following that, much like The Rocky Horror Picture Show - you just have to be amongst the right group of people to appreciate the awesome terribleness the film exudes.

11) WILD WILD WEST

 photo WildWildWest_zps72a32758.jpg

Here's a movie that sounds like it should be good on paper, but the execution and casting are all wrong. Wild Wild West is still watchable - I just can't say that it would be my first or second or 100th pick. Will Smith and Kevin Kline are just wrong and the steam-punk effects are just corny. The less said about Kenneth Branagh's turn as Dr. Arliss Loveless, the better. All-around, a failure but we haven't quite reached the eye-gougingly bad quotient just yet.

Things will start to pick up very soon - but let me know if you think the Razzies are on the right track or if they're still way off base in their picks. Opinions are always welcome.

Saw all of these. Showgirls was the worst from the list. At least the others were somewhat entertaining and bearable.

Of the two on this list I've seen, I'd say the Razzies are on track.
