Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) escapes and after a few months, Detective Kerry (Dina Meyer) has been captured by Jigsaw. Jigsaw’s next test subject is Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) is a troubled Doctor who has plans of getting a divorce. Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) is also abducted because he has been trying to search for the killer of his 8 year old son. Amanda (Shawnee Smith) accompanies Dr. Denlon to John Kramer (Tobin Bell). Jeff enters a freezer and finds Danica Scott (Debra Lynne McCabe), because of her self-absorption and cowardice, his son died. He meets the rest of the people who were part of the accident.

Flashback on Amanda shows good characterization, even to the point of being an accomplice in the first Saw with regards to Adam. The painful contraptions were immensely …

A gory way to spend an evening

There is a modicum of entertainment to be found in Saw III, director Darren Lynn Bousman’s entry into the horror series, though purely for gore-lovers and those not jaded by thriller techniques in horror movies. As with the first two films, Saw III is written by Leigh Whannell, who also played Adam in the original. One wonders if his screenplay was written with the same boost of creativity that inspired the first story, or with dollar signs in his sights. This is a franchise that cashes in, especially around the Halloween season, but at the price of becoming rapidly more violent, unnecessarily gory and convoluted.

Saw III spends a lot of its running time explaining various activities of The Jigsaw Killer (Tobin Bell) and his cohort, Amanda (Shawnee Smith) who was a former victim of …

Keep sawing

I very much liked this second sequel to "Saw". For me, the story unfolded at an unrelenting pace and offerend non-stop suspense from beginning to end. That's probably good, because there is no time to ponder plot holes, of which there must be at least a few in a story so intricate. And this is considering that I watched the unrated director's cut, which maxes out at nearly two hours!

I find the scripts in the "Saw" movies extremely clever. And they seem to maintain continuity among them all, like there really is an overall plan (other than making money). This one is not as good as the first one (what sequel is?), yet better than the second one. If the filmmakers can sustain the creativity, I hope there continues to be a new one released every year on the Friday before Halloween.

Jeff is an anguished man, who grieves and misses his young son that was killed by a driver in a car accident. He has become obsessed for revenge against the man and reckless with his wife and daughter. When Dr. Lynn Denlon, who has troubles with her marriage, is abducted by the deranged Jigsaw's apprentice Amanda, she is brought to a gruesome warehouse to keep John Kramer alive in spite of having a terminal brain tumor. Amanda puts a necklace gadget full of explosives around Dr. Lynn's neck connected to John Kramer's life support system, and tells her that if he dies the device will explode. Meanwhile, Jeff is submitted to a sick game of forgiveness with surprising dark consequences.

In a usual sense, any critic could tell you that in most cases, sequels will get worse by the numbers. …
