Our Daily Free Stream: Francis Ford Coppola - The Outsiders. Zum Geburtstag von Francis Ford Coppola! - Falls Francis Ford Coppola 1983 niedergeschlagen sein sollte nach dem Zusammenbruch seiner Zoetrope Studios, sieht man es The Outsiders nicht an. The Outsiders sieht nicht nur aus wie "grosses Kino", sondern wie "allergrösstes Kino"! Coppola blickt zurück in die 50er Jahre nach Nebraska, doch wohl eher nicht in seine eigene Jugend, dafür in die Zeit der grossen Hollywood Schinken. The Outsiders beginnt mit einem Banner, der Filmtitel zieht riesengross von rechts nach links an uns vorbei. Johnny (Macchio) accidentally kills a member of the Socs, the rival gang of the Greasers. Dallas Winston (Dillon) helps him escape town with Ponyboy Curtis (Howell). Brilliantly scored coupled with solid performances. One gets to see a young Matt Dillon, Emilio Estivez and Tom Cruise in support roles. The plot is somewhat thin and lacks impact from the beginning. It's unfortunate some casts were under utilized such as Diane Lane and Tom Waits. Some noteworthy lines: "Things are rough all over." and "Nothing gold can stay. " If only the screenplay were more engaging. There was clarity as to the reason of the gang wars. A film about teen angst, gang wars, heroism and loosing it when a friend dies. The Outsiders is far from being an American Graffiti, it's still worth viewing …

Fantastic story that screams realism.

"The Outsiders" is one of my all-time favorite movies. The cinematography is beautiful, the score gorgeous, the acting excellent, and the writing -- the most important part of any movie that isn't a musical or a travelogue -- first rate. Put that all together -- with emphasis on the writing -- and it adds up to an extremely entertaining film. And that is what I want from a movie: entertainment, the opposite of boredom. The great thing about "The Outsiders" is that it not only entertains, but it does so in every area. I'll start with the cinematography. That isn't something that I normally think about when I see a movie. Here, however, I couldn't not think about it. Nowhere else have I seen such rich and vibrant landscapes, such exquisite multi-colored sunsets, and even such effective use …
