Not much not to like here, as Oppenheimer covers all bases in that it stuns as a historical epic, has a great script that delves into the politics of the time from all sides without bashing the US, and has stand out performances across the board from Cillian Murphy’s intense acting in the the title roll, to a brilliant Robert Downey Jr., and excellent turns from Matt Damon, Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt. Director Christopher Nolan brings it all home on the technical front, and nails all of the moral implications of building the first atomic bomb perfectly. Only negative is the movie is a bit long at three hours, but it still easily stands as one of the year’s best films.

Few directors can be credited with having actually redefined the meaning of cinema, to have pushed the possibilities of what can be done, and to have altered storytelling entirely. Even fewer can be said to have done all that multiple times. Christopher Nolan is such a director, and when you watch "Oppenheimer," his 3-hour symphony featuring a top-notch cast, masterful cinematography, captivating score, and brutal dramatic intensity, you are witnessing the work of a genius both in front of and behind the camera.
