I appreciate both the concept and the characters but it felt like the narrative moves with so much convenience. The premise of immortality -as always- holds so much depth and this film failed to explore it. I wish the story could have centered on Booker instead of Andy, that way, this film could have been more argumentative and interesting.

The Old Guard is like Highlander, but without the constant beheaded and awesome Queen soundtrack. It's a perfectly fine movie, but the story and characters are nothing memorable. The action scenes are at least enjoyable. However, the soundtrack in the movie felt like it came from someones spotify playlist. No offence to Harry Melling, I think he's a great actor, but I had time feeling threaten by him in the movie, especially as the villain.

A decent actioner to tide you over, boosted by the always-welcome presence of Charlize Theron. Serving as an introduction to this group of immortal warriors, it serves its purpose, though I would have liked to see even more backstory for the characters. Given the ending, Netflix is banking on at least a sequel (if not several) and I'm willing to give any future installments a shot.

After the disappointments of "Extraction" and the absolutely appalling "The Last Days of American Crime," I personally wasn't in the mood for another Netflix action romp. "The Old Guard" surprised me with a genuine, rumbling experience that is much appreciated in a time when our usual supply of Hollywood blockbusters has come to a screeching halt.
