Imagine ‘Lord of the Files’....but in space….with a “base on an young adult novel” vibe to it….and everyone is really horny….yeah.

A sci-fi rendition of Lord of the Flies with all the love triangles you'd expect from a Y/A film. Except I actually don't think it's based off a book. There are effective scenes in this film that show the characters indulging in their primal urges. Some of the cast is weak. Fionn Whitehead is good as the hedonistic upstart but Tye Sheridan is pretty bland here. Lily-Rose Depp fares better. It's too bad Colin Farrell doesn't have more screentime. The set design is very futuristic and Neil Burger's direction keeps things moving.

They should have just called this CW's Lord of the Flies.... IN SPACE!! It's fine but not nearly as deep or interesting as it wants to be. I get why they stuck with the PG-13 to bring in the right age group but I kind of think pushing for an R would have made a bigger impact. Ah, whatever, pretty people doing stuff is entertaining enough these days.

This sci-fi take on "Lord of the Flies" is stunningly polished and more cerebral than most blockbusters, but as it embraces its source material's themes of human nature, "Voyagers" succumbs to tripe commentary and a predictable finale.

Fionn Whitehead is the future of evil Caucasian twinks.
