I give "Crazy Rich Asians" the credit it has earned as a movie that's helping solve Hollywood's screen diversity problem, but as a romantic comedy it never attempts anything outstanding and its story buckles under too many characters and not enough conflict or plot.

Far more emotionally resonant than it has any right to be, John Chu's adaptation of the bestselling romance juggles all the familiar story lines you've seen butchered by lesser films such as the Christian Grey crapfests. The ensemble cast is very good;standouts include Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh. As a travelogue that switches between splashy parties and beaches, it is beautifully filmed.

Started with a big statement about racism. Filled with entertaining, hooking simple plot. And ended strong and satisfying.

A great cast, beautiful cinematography, confident directing and a well-crafted script make Crazy Rich Asians a totally solid and very entertaining romantic comedy.
