Pure psychedelia embodied. If you look, there are contrasting themes of identity and duty at play, but they are often buried within the incoherency of the plot. That may turn some viewers off, but, Performance is a film to be experienced and meditated on. A lot of the gangster "cool" of the film inspired later directors.

This is Roeg's very early attempt at creating something interesting. It doesn't work at all. It's not coherent. However, luckily he was able to work through the ideas he had and was able to create something better in the future. Jagger is a great musician, but not a great actor.
