Like Shirley Jackson's novel upon which it's based, "The Haunting" is a quaintly spooky but also unsettlingly dramatic story combining ghosts and human psychology that still holds up today.

This was one of the most frightening films I'd ever seen at the time. I was a teenager when I first saw it, and was totally in its' grip the entire time. The black and white photography adds to the eeriness, the way shadows are cast, the way faces are lit, fantastic. The actors are great in their respective roles, allowing you the viewer to enter the experience, and take the journey with them.
