I'm gonna say it. David Cronenberg's "The Brood" is a better allegory of early parenthood than David Lynch's overrated surreal hand job "Eraserhead." Not only is it more disturbing, but it handles a wider array of other interesting themes as well.

Those who are familiar with Cronenberg's 'body horror' style will find much in gross make-up f/x and shocks. The story is more accessible to a general audience than say his other horror efforts like 'Rabid', 'Scanners', and 'Videodrome'. The psychosomatic angle is an interesting theme. This is one of his scarier efforts. Really gave me the creeps.

This movie should have been aborted. Cronenberg reportedly wrote it during an acrimonious divorce and the flick is rife with misogynistic ire. Avoid it and it's relentless psycho-allegorizing. Unless you fear midgets.
