The idea of John Woo directing a WW2 movie starring Nicolas Cage sounds awesome. It's too bad the movie we got is pretty average. There are some nice things about it. Adam Beach is not bad as his costar;honestly, it's weird he is not the main character. Even the battle scenes are not that impressive. Saving Private Ryan did it better. Enemy at the Gates did it better. Even Pearl Harbor did it better. And the movie is overlong at more than two hours. If it was maybe cut down by a half hour, this would had fared better.

John Woo - he of the jumping through the air whilst shooting two guns and silently flying doves tries his best to mix action and war and fails on both fronts. It doesn't help that Cage is miscast. There are much better alternatives.
