This movie actually really surprised me. When I saw the previews for this movie I scoffed at the thought of them trying to make a prequel. This movie actually did a pretty good job of explaining some of the habits of the family as well as a little bit of leatherface and why he is the way he is. The acting was also pretty good for a horror movie. Overall not nearly as good as the original but still a fairly good watch.

I thought this was a very good addition to the legacy that is the Hewitt family. As a big horror fan it had enough gore and violence to satisfy even the most depraved fan and the writing was actually pretty well done for this sort of horror. One of the things that I will complain about is that the Hewitt family had more character development than the victims but other than that this a definite must see for horror fans!!

Depraved, worthless prequel which decides early on that it can't come up with anything new and uses the same run-of-the-mill formula as before. A waste of time. Final Grade: D-

Where the remake relied on suspense, this prequel relies heavily on gore and prolonged sequences of pain. It does look convincing, but it grows tiresome. A mostly routine effort with little surprise and few actual chases. The return of R. Lee Ermey and the evolution of his family's backstory are the only reasons I keep this film at an average rating.

I thought this was an awesome movie. I would give it three thumbs up. Since I only have two thumbs, I must find someone willing to give up one of their thumbs. If you would be willing to give up one of your thumbs so that I can validate this review, please let me know.

Better than I had anticipated, though nowhere near the classic original. It's interesting, if not compelling. Has more character development than one would expect and enough gore to keep horror fans happy.
