The Day the Earth Stood Still (original) review

Tom: "I don't care about the rest of the world!" An alien (Klaatu) with his mighty robot (Gort) land their spacecraft in Washington. Klaatu then befriends Bobby and Helen. Yes the effects and set may have been dated, but its themes of humanity, caring about Earth and wars were well emphasized by the exceptional script, surprisingly touching for its genre. Best quotes: Klaatu - "I'm in patient with stupidity." "I am fearful when I see people substituting fear for reasoning." and Bobby's response about no wars - "Gee, thats a good idea." Pacing was good with usage of slight humor and film noir elements. Score was delightful and performances were believable. The dialogue and screenplay was witty and insightful. Only knack this reviewer had were the conclusion and better utilization of the props (spacecraft/Gort). The Day the Earth Stood Still's remake may have the fancy special effects, the original version definitely has a better plot. One the most influential sci-fi films deserves its place depites its minor flaws, its as one of the best created.
