Definitely one of the most artistic, important and well acted films about the topic of sex. Not for kids and teenagers since it has some really frisky scenes. It's title is striking enough which means an affect, emotion, cognition, state, or condition, and it's hard to be moved by this thought provoking movie. A powerful picture like this involves a very talented and believable lead, and a solid supporting cast to make it work. Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a successful executive with a pervert boss who abuses the company's benefits. Sissy (Carey Mulligan) is the little sister of Brandon who sings and gets with his married boss David (James Badge Dale). Score was subtle since the moments on film were powerful, acting just effective and premise just realistic. Best memorable lines: Brandon - "Try doing something. Actions count not words." Sissy - "I'm not perfect. But I'm...trying." "We're not bad people. We just come from a bad place." Marianne - "They probably don't have to speak because they're connected." Direction was exceptional and this could have been best picture of 2011 in all aspects. Michael Fassbender was just amazing, which reminds this rater as a Daniel-Day Lewis type performance especially in certain scenes where you see the pain on his face. He really made the movie incredibly engaging. So many subjects touched such as infidelity, addiction to sex (porn/getting of by himself or with a partner), sibling relationship, infidelity, dependency, commitment, pressures of dating and decency. If Requiem for a Dream is the best film on drug addiction, then Shame is for sex, but both films exhibit addiction or a condition and its adverse effects.
