Dead Ringers review

Dead Ringers is about a scary transformation, actresses lifestyle, malpractice, attachments (figuratively and literally), loneliness, drug addiction, manipulation and a unique brotherly love. As one of the characters mentioned - "Why don't you get along with your very own life?" which almost sums up the premise of the story. One of the best horrific psychological thrillers with a great performance from a single person. Elliot and Beverly Mantle are identical twins that are gynecologists. Beverly is the younger of the two who is shy and lonely while Elliot is confident and a womanizer. One of the best drug related films which shows its effects via clinical depression, heavy drinking, prescription drug abuse and paranoid delusions. Jeremy Irons was just spectacular in his role on the picture. Score, pacing and direction were flawless. Some humor were injected in certain scenes despite its serious topics. The symbolism's were always spot-on coupled with the usage of the psyche, which makes this a favorite of the director based on this critics perception. Best lines include the following: Beverly - "Pain creates character distortion, it's simply not necessary. " "Separation can be a... terrifying thing." Eliliot - "She's a showbiz lady. What can you expect?" Definitely in the class of Requiem for a Dream, Audition, Barton Fink, Frailty, Silence of the Lambs and Blue Velvet.
