Alfie (1966)

Alfie can be surprising

This film here can be quite surprising with where it goes, although it remains comical it becomes far more deeper than that. It treats the womanizing Alfie with comedy but it adds sadness to it in a fashion that works out pretty well. It involves his interaction with several women which the interactions all of some interest to them although all are not completely sorted out or fleshed out as well as it should be. I have no problems with the film and it is interesting that it works with both elements of the film so well, just a few times it went to the next "bird" a bit too quickly, or did not flesh out another well enough.

Oscar Nominee Michael Caine Best Actor 5/5- A great performance from Caine that fully fleshes out the character of Alfie and can make you understand his selfishness and foolishness. Caine is perfect in the role, and never does a false move in the film. He acts well as the lady's man making it believable and his later sorrow is well presented since it is full subtlety .
