Scary, But Hardly Original

Paranormal Activity 3 is exactly the same as #1 and #2, which is to say, often very effective. There are some inventive scares in the film, bolstered by the lack of music and realistic camera angles. Unfortunately, the film is hung on a thin and already overdone premise. I think this 3rd film is appropriate in that it wraps up the trilogy and answers unfinished questions about the story arc, but it hardly breaks new ground - both for horror films in general and for the genre. You get the sense that the filmmakers are sleepwalking through the motions because they know people will pay money to see the finished product, but, despite this, the film still is pretty scary.
