Jedi was a great film that at the time left a few people wondering, whats the deal with so many muppets? Unfortunately because Lucas loved the work that Frank Oz did with Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back, he decided that there should be more characters that are puppeteered, so we have many more characters especially in Jabba's Palace that appear in this movie.
Picking up a number of weeks or months after Empire ended we begin the story with the most famous droids in the galaxy (C-3PO & R2D2) navigating the deserts of Tattooine as they had in the first movie, this time in search of Jabba's Palace where Han Solo is still encased in carbonite as one of Jabba's many treasured prizes.
The movie shows the transformation of many of the classic characters that we have known to care for since the original titles release in 1977. Luke Skywalker is now more disciplined in the ways of the force, and he shows his skills as he attempts to rescue his friend from the trophy room where he hangs in Jabba's Palace.
The story is strong, the environments are completely new which is something that I have enjoyed and respected about this trilogy. In A New Hope we have dark earth tones, sand, dirt, browns, tans, and off shades of white. In the Empire Strikes Back, we have the darkness of space, black and white, even on Bespin (Cloud City) the primary colors are rare, and we usually see Black, white and grey. In Return of the Jedi, we are now moving on into newer environments, locations such as Endor with lush green forests, and the little tribal cultures of strange creatures known as Ewoks.
I liked Jedi, when I was a kid it was my favorite of the trilogy because it had so many interesting and different characters, and that meants that I could collect a whole bunch of new Star Wars toys that they hadn't released before.
It wouldn't be until I got older to see that I liked Empire a whole lot more because of its amazing story line. Overall this a great movie, well worth seeing and I would highly recommend it, but only if you have seen the first 2 movies first!
