One thing you can't argue about Woody Allen as a director - he really does bring out the best in the actresses he casts. Cate Blanchett is at the top of her game and co-star Sally Hawkins is right behind. Though I couldn't exactly connect with the characters or story, I still found it fascinating simply because of the performances. I didn't like it as much as Midnight in Paris, but as a person who usually finds Allen films a tad underwhelming, this was a success.
