When Mulan (Ming-Na, Lea Salonga singing) realized her father Zhou (Soon-Tek Oh) would be going off to war, she decided to take his place, dressed as a man. Now she and her guardian spirit Mushu (Eddie Murphy) must defeat the Hun army in “Mulan.”

Ah, Mulan, the one bad 90’s Disney movie. They can’t all be gems, they say, and this one is the one the weak link. It’s not absolutely horrible though. There are some sequences that are worth watching the movie for, but all its flaws are worth noting.

The writing, specifically dialogue, is a major flaw. The story is really good, but the script seems rushed. Either that or it was just written by poor writers. Still, it’s not as bad as some more recent Disney films.

Music is another poor quality. The songs are just as poorly written as the dialogue and seem just as rushed. Long story short, the soundtrack is not the best from Disney.

I may sound like I’m only comparing “Mulan” to other Disney films, but the fact of the matter is that it’s really a generic Disney movie with nothing too unique. But as I said before, the movie is worth it for some aspects, such as the elegant artistic backgrounds and a few sequences here and there that are animated beautifully.

Acting: 7/10
