A well-written movie based on the true story of U.S. Customs special agent Robert Mazur and his infiltration Pablo Escobar masive money laudering opreration by going under cover and posing as a corrupt, wealthy businessman in the 1980's.
If you enjoyed Donnie Brasco then you'll definitely enjoy this one. Suspense from beginning to end as Robert Mazur goes deeper into the world of drugs, money and murder with his life on the line thoughout. Closecalls and high risk put him and his family in potential danger as Mazur focuses not only on his job but also on the safety and well-being of his family
Interesting conflicts arise, one of which is Mazur's sense of guilt and responsibilty as he begins to build close-frindships with the criminals he is trying to put away while at the same time knowing that it's his responsibilty to so and that he is only playing a role. Mazur's job is not for one who can't put their feelings aside but while so deep in the operation, he sometimes finds this difficult to do so.
The acting is brilliant, at least in my opinion. I think Bryan Cranston pulled of an excellent portrayal of agent Mazur and for an actor who we are more familiar with seeing in comedic roles, this is an excellent transition, showing he has something more to offer Hollywood.
The film also stars John Leguizamo, impressive as another undover agent workong with Mazur to bust the criminals. Benjamin Bratt, in a surprising role, plays one of the ruthless drug dealers who befirends Mazur and Diane Kruger shows great acting as Mazur's uncover fiance.
The film, although not in the top "cop goes undercover" movies, is still based on a true story which always makes a story more unbelievable. We are also able to relate with our chracetrs, their feelings and personlaities present throughout the movie's duration and it definitely succeeds in keeping you on edge as any mistake, even the tiniest, could cost them their lives.
