The King of Kings (1927)

Some elements of this film are fantastic: the production is outstanding; the actors give great performances; I'll even admit to some touching moments. I know this film was a hit & is much beloved my many, but I just can't. The plot is just RIDICULOUS in spots.

Case in point, my favorite line of the whole film is at the very beginning. We are introduced to Mary Magdalene, extravagant, reckless courtesan, who finds out that a carpenter has lured away her lover, Judas Iscariot. (What now ?!) She bangs a gong, calling for one of her servants, "Harness my zebras - gift of the Nubian King! This Carpenter shall learn that He cannot hold a man from Mary Magdalene!" "Harness my zebras"? Just utter nonsense.
