Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Well this was one of the strangest movies I’ve seen in a while. Part historical drama, part murder mystery, all saturated with atmosphere and dread. The climactic orgy scene could only been directed by a European;Americans are too prudish.
Ben Whishaw is appropriately aloof as the talented but deeply troubled perfumer. Alan Rickman is very good as the devoted father turned amateur detective. I cannot say if this did the book any justice but it’s not lacking in ambition or sheer audacity.
