Weird for the Sake of it

I appreciate horror movies that challenge the genre limits. This foreign affair definitely utilizes the meaning of 'challenge'. This is one I paid absolute attention to detail with and was still left scratching my head. I wasn't disturbed, or creeped out by any of this film, but I did find some of it detesting. The reasoning behind the two boy's psychotic turn is completely unclear. No truth's to their past (or present for that matter) with their mother are eluded to. That would be fine, if the film didn't randomly dive into these 'dreamlike' sequences that happen abruptly and are shown exactly like real life as is depicted in the film. The experience feels weird for the sake of weird and it made me detached. That's why I felt no fear. I admire the willingness of craft, but it left me confused rather than emotionally impacted.
